Camping Info and packing lists


The following items are applicable for all camping trips, unless announced otherwise:

  1. Item not allowed on camping trips:
    • ALL Electronic devices such CELL PHONES, IPads, IPods, cameras, game boys, PSPs, CD players, MP3 players, Nintendo switch, radios, etc...they will be confiscated.
    • Hunting Knives (pocket knives are allowed)
  2. The cost for food is typically $10 for a two-day camping trip. Prices may vary depending on the menu developed by the patrol and the food purchased by the grub master. The final cost for food will be determined by the grub master and known at sign in.
  3. You will need to eat before meeting at the assembly area.
  4. The assembly area is the Knight of Columbus Parking lot. If departing on a Friday, the assembly time is 5:30 p.m.
  5. Each boy is responsible for packing, loading, and unloading their personal equipment and troop equipment.
  6. The camping trips are usually finished at noon on Sunday. The troop will be dismissed by the Senior Patrol Leader after all equipment is unloaded, cleaned, and properly stored. Dismissal time will vary depending on the nature of the camping trip and condition of the troop equipment.

Warm Weather Camping Packing List


  • Tote/backpack/duffle bag
  • Sleeping bag/bed roll
  • Sleeping pad
  • Pillow
  • Mess kit with utensils or a plate, knife, fork, spoon, and cup or mug
  • Water bottle/camel pack
  • Scout uniform (Need to wear during travel)
  • T-shirts
  • Shorts
  • Long pants
  • Extra underwear and socks
  • Waterproof boots/shoes (2-3 pairs depending on length of camp out)
  • Pajamas
  • Poncho/rain coat
  • Windbreaker/jacket/sweater/hoodie
  • Hat
  • Towel and wash cloth 
  • Toiletries/personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
  • Boy Scout handbook with note pad and pen or pencil - MANDATORY
  • Flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs
  • Rope
  • Wrist/pocket watch
  • Pocket knife (Tote 'N' Chip required for this item)
  • Compass (optional)
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect and tick repellant
  • Personal first-aid kit
  • Camp chair (optional)
  • Playing Cards (optional)

 

Cold Weather Camping Packing List


All boys attending a cold weather camping trip, must have the following items at a minimum. This equipment must be packed or worn by the scouts before they are allowed to attend the camping trip.

  • Tote/backpack/duffle bag
  • Cold weather sleeping bag. If you do not have a cold weather sleeping bag, a sleeping bag inside another sleeping bag will work or you can use blankets inside a sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Pillow
  • Mess kit with utensils or a plate, knife, fork, spoon, and cup or mug
  • Water bottle/camel pack
  • Scout uniform (Need to wear during travel)
  • At least one change of warm clothes per day
  • Long johns
  • Extra socks
  • Warm Boots
  • Something warm to sleep in (pajamas, sweatpants, sweatshirt, and stocking hat)
  • Poncho/rain coat
  • Warm coat, hat, and gloves
  • Towel and wash cloth
  • Toiletries/personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
  • Boy Scout handbook with note pad and pen or pencil - MANDATORY
  • Flash light with extra batteries and bulbs

Hiking/Backpacking Packing List


(Everything on this list must fit into the scouts backpack.)
  • Backpack 
  • Mess kit with utensils or a plate, knife, fork, spoon, and cup or mug
  • Water bottle/camel pack
  • Extra socks
  • Poncho/rain coat
  • Windbreaker/jacket/sweater/hoodie
  • Boy Scout handbook with note pad and pen or pencil
  • Small flashlight with extra batteries and bulb
  • Rope/cord - 10' - 25' length (to be used in case of emergency) and yellow hemp (to be used as an aid in starting fire)
  • Pocket knife (Tote 'N' Chip required for this item)
  • Compass
  • Matches, fire starter, char cloth, lint from dryer
  • Snacks/lunch (if needed)

What to wear:

  • Cotten blend or cord pants (Try not to wear blue jeans, as they dry too slowly.)
  • Hiking socks
  • Water resistant hiking boots - MANDATORY
  • Hat that covers your ears - MANDATORY
  • Gloves - MANDATORY

Tips:

  • Pack as light as possible.
  • Dress in layers and for the weather.
  • Plan for the coldest weather possible.
  • Have good footwear. Make sure your boots are well broken in and suitable for the terrain.
  • Wear synthetics, fleece, or wool. Cotton is not your friend!
  • Always plan for precipitation (rain/sleet/snow.)
  • Beware of blisters.

 

Summer Camp Packing List


This list includes items in addition to the Council recommended items to bring to camp.

  • Completed medical form, two copies (if not already submitted to troop)
  • Tote/backpack/duffle bag
  • Sleeping bag/bed roll
  • Pillow
  • Cot
  • Mosquito net for bunk
  • Mess kit with utensils or a plate, knife, fork, spoon, and cup or mug
  • Water bottle/camel pack
  • Scout uniform (Need to wear during travel)
  • Extra t-shirts
  • Shorts
  • Long pants
  • Extra underwear and socks
  • Proper footwear - hiking boots, sneakers, waterproof shoes, water socks or old sneakers for canoeing. (You should bring 3 pairs of shoes.)
  • Pajamas
  • Laundry bag
  • Poncho/rain coat
  • Windbreaker/jacket/sweater/hoodie
  • Swim trunks and towel
  • Hat
  • Handkerchief
  • Towel and wash cloth
  • Toiletries/personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
  • Boy Scout handbook with note pad and pen or pencil (Name must be in book) - MANDATORY
  • Flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs
  • Wrist/pocket watch
  • Pocket knife (Tote 'N' Chip required for this item)
